Today a word I hate….

Never.

1 : not ever : at no time <I never met her>
2 : not in any degree : not under any condition <never the wiser for his experience>

What's wrong with never? It's a word used to keep you from doing things. "It will never work." "Never gonna happen." Etc.

A story of mine that Rida is tired of hearing:

While visiting my father in California, he had borrowed someone's chainsaw to take down a tree in his backyard. The tree, however, had some relatives in the petrified forest, and proved itself to be quite tough – it broke the chain on the chainsaw. My father was ready to give up, when I said "Got an axe? I'll chop it down." He looked at me, then looked at this tree that had gotten the better of a whirring chainsaw, and he said, "There's no way. You'll never get this tree down with an axe."

Wrong. Answer.

It took me over an hour of swinging a damn axe over and over, on opposite sides of the trunk, but I toppled that tree. Then I immediately went inside, stupid smug look on my face, and collapsed into bed – my arms were sore for days. But there was no way I was going to let "never" get in the way of my arrogance.

We can do the impossible. It just takes longer.
