I refer, of course, to the Writers Strike affecting TV and movies and award shows. (Me, I'm not on strike – non-Union, and, also, not my medium)<\/p>\n
Personally I'm not terribly affected by the strike as I don't watch much TV – if it disrupts the Simpsons, I guess, it will rise to the level of my notice. I also see few movies a year, so yep, not really hitting me hard there either. Award shows? Them being impacted is a joke to – while I feel for the businesses that suffer because of the loss of revenue (the caterers and whatnot that is) I am completely NOT impacted by the loss of parties and general cult of celebrity worship that surrounds award shows. Let the awards reflect excellence in an art form – fine. Stop making them a spectacle.<\/p>\n
Anyway I think one of the reasons the Strike is lingering on because they picked a rotten time to try and get their point across – there's plenty of entertainment available right now. Who needs scripted TV in an election year? It might just be my proximity to DC – and it's far too close – but I find the political circus plenty entertaining. Should have picked another year when scripted TV didn't have so much competition for viewership.<\/p>\n
