Possibly both.<\/p>\n<p>The etymology of this word is a good one &#8211; it comes from lackaday, which is a word created from the phrase &quot;Alack, the day&quot; is which probably what those sissy Romantic-period poets went around saying while they lounged on pillows and lamented how hard true love really was when you were a poor foppishly-dressed poet.
